Following the first day of presentations and knowledge exchange in Athens, the second day of the IT4EST Replication Roadshow was dedicated to the Attica Testbed – Field Evaluation of Solutions, which took place at the Marble Quarries of Dionysos-Pentelis. The focus shifted to hands-on demonstrations, giving project partners the opportunity to test technologies developed within the IT4EST project in a real operational setting and examine their practical value.
The testbed provided an ideal environment for showcasing solutions designed to strengthen forest resilience, wildfire preparedness, emergency response, and Civil Protection capabilities across Europe.
During the field exercise, a range of technologies were demonstrated, including tools for wildfire prevention and early detection, AI-powered decision support and risk analysis, sensor-based incident monitoring, real-time tactical coordination, field communication and task management for responders, resource allocation and dispatching, as well as post-incident review and performance analytics.
The pilot activities also included the testing of a new smart extinguishing material, designed to support faster fire suppression while reducing water consumption, alongside application scenarios involving simulated forest fuel and challenging materials. These demonstrations highlighted IT4EST’s focus on improving operational readiness while supporting more sustainable emergency response practices.
As part of the pilot activities, Konnektable Technologies demonstrated the COncORDE platform, an advanced crisis management solution that enables collaboration between incident commanders, dispatchers, and field responders through a unified operational environment. The demonstration showcased how live operational data, AI-assisted workflows, and real-time coordination tools can support faster and more informed decision-making during complex wildfire scenarios.

The field evaluation represented an important milestone for the IT4EST project, which is now halfway through its three-year journey. More than a technology demonstration, the exercise marked a concrete step towards validating research-driven solutions in real operational conditions and preparing them for wider deployment.
The importance of the field exercise was also highlighted through its coverage on Greek television, further underlining the relevance of the technologies tested for wildfire prevention, Civil Protection, and emergency response. To learn more, you can visit the related STAR.gr feature: here.

The second day of the roadshow reinforced IT4EST’s mission to turn research and innovation into practical tools that strengthen prevention, preparedness, and real protection for forests, communities, and ecosystems.
