On May 22, 2025, Konnektable Technologies proudly hosted a landmark event in Brussels that marked the culmination of the HECOF (Higher Education Classroom Of the Future) project. This dynamic day brought together educators, policymakers, technologists, and project partners to celebrate achievements, share lessons learned, and envision the next chapter in digital higher education.
The day began with the HECOF Final Plenary Meeting at Workero, Avenue des Arts 5. This closed-door session gathered the full HECOF consortium for a review of project outcomes. Work Package leaders delivered detailed reports, ensuring that every deliverable and milestone aligned with the project’s ambitious goals.
Strategic communication was also a key focus, with Konnektable Technologies leading discussions on how to maximize HECOF’s visibility and long-term impact. The session concluded with an energizing conversation on how the day’s conference would bring HECOF’s innovations to a broader audience — a testament to the consortium’s commitment to educational transformation.
In the afternoon, the HECOF Final Conference opened its doors to the public, drawing a diverse audience of educators, researchers, policymakers, and technology experts. Hosted at the same venue, the event showcased how AI-driven personalization, data-informed learning, and immersive technologies are reshaping the higher education landscape.
Dr. Angelos Liapis, CEO of Konnektable Technologies, kicked off the conference with a compelling welcome, underscoring HECOF’s mission: transforming the traditional classroom into a smart, immersive, and student-centered space.
The conference then highlighted key project results:
HECOF’s real-world impact was underscored by presentations from pilot sites in Italy and Greece. Representatives Xue Pei (Politecnico di Milano) and Maria Karoglou (National Technical University of Athens) shared insights from implementing HECOF’s solutions, highlighting successes and lessons learned in bringing these tools into the classroom.
A dedicated session explored the ethical and legal considerations of AI in education. Ioana Ghergulescu provided essential guidance on responsible AI practices, ensuring that educational innovation remains both impactful and equitable.
Another highlight was the vibrant discussion with sister EU-funded projects, including XR2Learn, XR2Industry, OPENVERSE, XR4HUMAN, MASTER, augMENTOR, and XR4ED. This session emphasized the importance of transdisciplinary collaboration in driving educational transformation.
The conference concluded with reflections from Epameinondas Koutavelis (Konnektable Technologies) on the road ahead. As HECOF transitions from project to practice, its innovations will continue to empower universities across Europe to build more adaptive, AI-enhanced, and learner-centered classrooms.
