Earlier this month, on December 4, the “Beyond the Algorithm: From Research to Action for Democratic Renewal” Conference took place in Brussels — a joint final event organised by the ITHACA Project, AI4Gov, KT4Democracy, and the Orbis Project. The event brought together researchers, policymakers, civic-tech innovators, and representatives of civil society to explore how AI and Big Data are influencing democratic systems, public trust, and citizen engagement across Europe.
As the proud coordinator of the ITHACA Project, Konnektable Technologies participated actively and contributed to the exchange of knowledge and ideas.
Our team was represented by our Research Project Delivery Manager, Epaminondas Koutavelis, who delivered a presentation showcasing both the ITHACA Initiative and the AI4Deliberation Project during Panel 1: “How AI and Big Data Technologies Are Transforming the Capacity to Form, Lose, and Rebuild Trust” and our CEO, Angelos Liapis, who moderated Panel 2: “Literacies: Transforming Vulnerability into Empowerment”.

The conference was an inspiring and insightful gathering, bringing together Europe’s leading voices in digital participation, civic tech, research, civil society, and policy-making. It offered a valuable space for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and cross-sector collaboration. Discussions centred on key themes such as public trust, digital governance in the era of AI and Big Data, democratic innovation and engagement, and the development of democracy-centred technologies that promote transparency, inclusion, and meaningful citizen participation in democratic processes.
The event marked an important milestone for the participating Horizon Europe projects, celebrating years of collaborative research and paving the way for future action in strengthening digital democracy across Europe.
